Quidam
Cirque du Soleil
Shanghai
June 28th - August 26th 2007
ThemeSTAR has been appointed as the first promoter to ever take a Cirque
Du Soleil
production to the People's Republic of China. Quidam will invoke the imagination,
provoke
the senses and evoke the emotions of all who come to see it in Shanghai,
the only season
to be presented in the China. ThemeSTAR's management has been promoting
in China
since 1995 and first toured a Peking Opera to Australia in 1987.
The company's extensive
experience has created government and corporate networks across the PRC
and today is
regarded as a leader in theatrical production, sponsorship and operations.
Quidam: a nameless
passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing
past. It could be anyone, anybody.
Someone coming, going, living in our anonymous society. A member of the
crowd, one of the silent majority. The one who cries out, sings and dreams
within us all. This is the
"Quidam"
that Cirque du Soleil
is celebrating.
A young girl fumes; she has already seen everything there is to see, and
her world has lost
all meaning. Her anger shatters her little world, and she finds herself
in the universe of Quidam.
She is joined by a joyful companion as well as another character, more
mysterious, who will attempt to seduce her with the marvelous, the unsettling,
and the
terrifying.
The Experience
Presented under a state-of-the-art Grand Chapiteau, Quidam turns gravity
on its head.
One of the productions most spectacular features is a 120-foot overhead
conveyor
made up of five imposing rails which takes up the entire interior roof
surface of the Grand
Chapiteau.
With more than 50 performers from 10 countries, the production is a thrilling
combination
of acrobatic artistry, technical expertise, extravagant design and exceptional
musical
inspiration, woven into a seamless whole by an emotional dramatic thread.
Quidam features the German wheel,
banquine, Spanish webs, diabolos, aerial contortion
in silk and the acclaimed crazy clowns.
The Company
Founded in Montreal in 1984 by street performer Guy
Laliberté, Cirque du Soleil has wowed
more than 40 million spectators around the world. Cirque du Soleil presents
a theatrical
blend of circus arts played out against fairyland sets, awash in magical
effects, and set to
spellbinding music.
